According to the United Airports of Georgia, in January 2020 the country’s airports served 314 thousand passengers which is 3% less than in January 2019. At the same time, the decline was recorded only due to Tbilisi International Airport, in all the rest airports of the country there is an increase versus the last year.
In January 2020, Tbilisi airport served 212 thousand people – 16% less than in January 2019. The reasons for recession were restrictions of flights to and from Russia and significant reduction in passenger traffic from China due to the threat of coronavirus.
At the same time Kutaisi Airport served almost 80 thousand passengers in January 2020, which is 43% more than during the same period of last year, mostly due to continues growth of low-cost flights to European destinations. The growth also remained at Batumi Airport.
